What Will Shake Next?

March 23, 2011

Eighteen years ago I had a powerful vivid dream about a massive earthquake in Japan followed by a nuclear cloud. Almost every day since that dream I have turned on the news with the strong belief that what I saw will happen at some point. I believe that all I saw in my dream in 1993 has not yet fully happened. Two years after my dream, friends asked me if the Kobe earthquake was what I had seen. I said it was not, because what I saw, had huge and immediate global implications. I saw the communications systems of the world shut down for a period of hours and the stock markets of all nations crumble as national debts and despair collided. Again, people have been asking me if the quake, tsunami and nuclear crisis of this past week are the fulfilment of the dream. I have asked myself the same question as it has indeed been shocking, and the domino effect on the world economy may well have further to run.

In my dream of 1993 I saw a gigantic earthquake which rocked Japan and knocked out communication systems temporarily and caused a sense of shock across the world at the scale of the catastrophe. In the dream I experienced an eerie silence as the world was stunned for some hours. Immediately afterwards I saw a nuclear mushroom cloud which was connected in some way to the city of Brussels. Following these two events I saw the world economy collapse and whole nations having to re-structure their financial systems. I knew in my heart that the dream spoke of a turning point for the world, after which the shaking in the earth would intensify to a level never seen before.

The events in Japan the past week are a strong signal of a change. I believe a new season of shaking has now begun. The Bible says that the earth groans as all creation awaits the end of the age. God is allowing all that we put our confidence in to be shaken. Nations and organizations that oppose God’s purposes will be shaken in order that they will reconsider. As 9-11 was a turning point in world politics, I believe the Japanese earthquake is a turning point after which the shaking of all nations will significantly intensify. The Bible clearly points us towards God as the only One who can help when we experience shaking of our very environment and man-made systems.

The Giant is Beginning to Stir

January 27, 2011

Years ago I had the job of entertaining kids in a hall while their parents enjoyed the church evening meeting without their energetic and restless offspring. Each week I would invent games or activities that would challenge and entertain. One favourite for the 5 to 12 year olds was where I would pretend to be a giant asleep at one end of the hall while they stole up on me. If they made a sound I would ‘wake up’ and chase them. The nearest would be caught and so be ‘out’. The last one to be out was the winner of a Mars bar or similar. As I reflect on this game I can’t understand why they didn’t just hang back and avoid the risk of waking the giant! Maybe there is something irresistible about provoking a sleeping threat?

It seems that the forces of secular humanism, false religion and the anti-Christian spirits are provoking the sleeping giant that is the Church in the United Kingdom. This has been happening for a generation but the giant has remained unperturbed. Until now. It seems that the forces opposed to the Truth really believe that they might actually get bold and close enough to smother the giant forever. The encroaching challengers may not realize that the giant has some of the centuries old wisdom like the Ents in Lord of the Rings and some of the potential that Gulliver had to help the islanders after he awoke.

The giant is not dead – just asleep! The giant is starting to awake. The urgency is great and the Church must awaken quickly as her opponents intend to anaesthetize and suffocate her! When she is alert and active she will rise up to defend the cause of truth and liberty on behalf of all. The drama is reaching a critical moment in 2011. Please join the voices calling the Church to stand up, speak out and take action.

As the Bible says to the Church:

Wake up O sleeper and rise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you

The Spirit of the Blitz?

December 25, 2010

My grandmother who survived the bombing on Birkenhead in the 1940’s used to repeatedly tell us about my grandfather boiling snow in France in order to shave during the war. I thought of her story this Christmas morning when the water supply went off in our neighbourbood. As neighbours phoned one another to confirm that we were without one of our basic needs, people walking dogs did the unthinkable and spoke to strangers! The slight inconvenience of not being able to make a cup of tea and the possibility of having to go to friends to get some more water reminded me of the idea that the spirit of the Blitz has not completely left us.

It was the kids who suggested that we could collect snow and boil it if the water didn’t come on for a day. While all this was happening we received a call from a long term friend in Cote d’Ivoire where following the presidential elections, former president Laurent Gbago is clinging to power and the other candidate, Alassane Ouattara is also claiming victory and attempting to operate from a hotel. Our friend described conditions in Cote d’Ivoire, with banks completely closed and everyone forced to remain at home for their own safety. With the election result split and both presidential candidates claiming authority to rule, the nation is paralysed and violence is breaking out. It made our drinking water challenge seem a little embarrassing.

A short while later we received a text message from a friend in Nigeria telling us that several bombs had been detonated in Christian communities in the Jos region. This comes after years of attacks on Christian communities with little remission or support. What makes it all the more challenging is that the liberal expediency of the international media insists on calling this “communal conflict” which belies the inbalanced nature of the attacks. News later in the day let us know that at least 32 people had died today. Our friend poignantly commented, “No celebrations today.”

While we attempted to organise a Christmas dinner without running water, and to find out if Western Union could make a money transfer to Cote d’Ivoire on Christmas day, the knowledge that fellow Christians in Nigeria had lost family members today, seemed to highlight how much we live in a bubble in the developed world. Our society is caught in a debate about ‘austerity’ and public services while huge parts of the world face huge challenge to life and family. While contemplating the ‘spirit of the Blitz’ as people talked in the street it occurred to me that life goes on in the UK and the challenges we face at this point don’t mean regular threats to life.

What will it take our liberal and secular humanist society to realize that the peace and tranquility we enjoy is derived from Christian truth? If we abandon our Christian roots as a nation we will choose the society and governance that these other nations are suffering. That was what the spirit of the Blitz was about, the last time we had to seriously defend the life and culture of this nation.

How to influence the nation without winning the election!

John Manwell - Liverpool Walton

As I write this the House of Commons has put on display the photographs taken by the official election photographer. I was delighted to hear that the photograph of me with my symbolic shepherd’s rod has been chosen as one of the 25 exhibition photographs – one from each day of the official campaign! What a wonderful privilege, 25 photographs for the 25 days of the election campaign. How appropriate for Liverpool to be captured symbolically as the image for day 7!

Another significant coup for our campaign was that the BBC published, largely unaltered, a prophetic press release calling for the political leaders to repent of the way in which our country has been governed. (http://bit.ly/VolcanoRepentance ) The BBC election page kept the article on their front page for 3 days! I don’t think any other candidate achieved 3 day visibility on the BBC, apart from the three main party leaders. Interestingly the call to repentance was visible for the 3 days up to Gordon Brown’s humiliating public ‘repentance’ after calling Mrs Gillian Duffy a ‘bigot’. Who says there is no God?

One of the key goals of our election campaign was to remind everyone in the constituency that there is a God. Our election leaflet was intentionally a clear reminder that God cares about our nation and that our Christian heritage should not be thrown away. If we continue to absorb the secular lie that our Christian past is best forgotten, it will surely follow that our society will continue to decay and ultimately collapse. Great Britain has been leading the world in the abandonment of our national Christian identity. As we head for a crisis, we must reverse this trend. Our leaflet was very well received by those we spoke to and copies were delivered to all 55,000 households in the constituency! A real success.

The image chosen for the House of Commons official record of the election campaign seems far more significant than the number of votes we won. For the record, the image for the 7th day of the election is a Christian campaigner, walking through a boarded up street, with Anfield football stadium dominating the skyline. The shepherd’s rod reminds us that the only hope for decaying Britain is the One True Shepherd who has been so faithful to this nation for over a thousand years.

Heal Our Land

May 17, 2010

Heal Our Land moved yesterday from Liverpool to Ashford!

In Liverpool on 10th May, over 1000 people came together to call on God to heal this land. On Saturday 15th, an estimated 1000 people came to Newsham Park for a wonderful proclamation of the Truth of Jesus – the only solution for the nation.

God has a wonderful strategy: With the initial event in Liverpool – a major gateway to the world for Britain for over two centuries, the Heal Our Land initiative moves to Ashford – the port town of the Channel tunnel – the link with mainland Europe.

God continues to stir this nation to prayer and action to tell people about Jesus. This call to come together, pray, repent and receive God’s anointing to speak to the world, is a growing call to the Church of Great Britain to BE the servant of God for the healing of the land.

Please join the Heal Our Land Ashford group – link below. That way you can be kept informed of how things are developing and receive prompts for prayer. This whole thing is going to continue to develop over coming months – God is at work!

75 years ago the Jeffreys brothers came to Liverpool to conduct a healing crusade in Bootle – where Heal Our Land Liverpool was effectively started on 2nd May in a meeting that Bishop James Jones spoke at – commemorating 100 years of St John and St James church. After several weeks of revival, healings and widespread salvation, the Jeffreys brothers moved their tent to Newsham Park and led another crusade – which resulted in a further move of God and the establishment of further churches with many people saved and healed. On Saturday 15th May, Heal Our Land Merseyside concluded with a city-wide outreach event in Newsham Park. Dozens of people committed their lives to the Lord and dozens more were prayed for to receive help in their lives. Many people came to a wonderful day of music, dancing and Christian witness. Many nations were represented – Iranians, Nigerians, Ghanaians, Pakistanis, Sri Lankans, Americans, Brazilians, Bolivians, Algerians, Yemeni, South African, Italian, and of course Liverpool people – probably others as well!

God is re-digging old wells! By being part of this group and praying alongside us, we are joining together to see Great Britain healed.

Out on the streets of Liverpool

May 1, 2010

Today, on the streets of Walton and Norris Green I met with some great people. It is great how people will take time to stop and talk while in the middle of their shopping. The sad news to report is that many people told me that they have had enough of the main political parties and far too many people believe that their vote won’t make a difference.

Calling Mrs Duffy a bigot this week reveals something much more serious than Gordon Brown’s temper: Interpreting an ordinary conversation about the real issues facing the nation as bigotry shows just how utterly disconnected big party politics has become. On the streets of Norris Green and Walton, people are genuinely concerned about jobs, immigration, the deficit, political correct nonsense and law and order.

Liverpool has been leading the way in this nation for hundreds of years. What Britain needs is a political revolution – a complete change in the way we vote and behave. What better place than Walton in Liverpool to start something fresh? Liverpool people have always

shown that they think for themselves, surely it is time to vote for something new?

Vote for a fresh approach to politics in Britain.

Christian Peoples Alliance Candidate stands with Christian Hoteliers in Walton

April 27, 2010

Press Release: Monday 26th April 2010

“Enough is enough!” the Christian Peoples Alliance candidate in Liverpool Walton will say at a dinner for supporters tonight. At the Bounty House Hotel in Walton, John Manwell the local candidate for the Christian Peoples Alliance will be talking about the importance of Christian Liberty in Britain, and how this has been attacked by successive governments, particularly the outgoing Labour administration.

The supporters dinner is being held in the Bounty House hotel, where the owners, Ben and Sharon Vogelenzang were taken to court last year following a discussion about their faith with a customer. They were charged with “religiously aggravated” crimes, but later cleared of all charges. During the evening John Manwell, with the Vogelenzangs will talk about how free speech has been undermined, how European legislation and political correctness have squeezed traditional Christian beliefs in Britain. John will be highlighting how the Vogelenzangs were acquitted, and yet their business became an innocent  victim of the charges brought against them.

“For a generation we have seen the Christian heritage of our nation attacked and minimised by secularism and encircled by political correctness. The people of Britain have been tricked into being apologetic about our Christian traditions, when in fact, it has been Christian principles that made this country great. Liverpool has more children being born outside of marriage than within.  We are seeing children damaged by the widespread breakdown of the family. As part of the secular package we are losing the Christian perspective of fairness and justice in the face of inequality. Even the basic concept of telling the truth has disappeared and people no longer trust political leaders.”

John Manwell is campaigning for a return to real democracy in Britain, and a return to Christian principles in our government. He has been a campaigner for years for the family to be strengthened and for policies that uphold the wellbeing of our society.

John has been campaigning for the people of Walton to reverse the history of poor turnout in elections and for the start of fresh politics in Liverpool. “The nation faces a vital choice on 6th May, don’t be a victim of the party you didn’t vote for.”

150 Candidates for Christian Peoples Alliance in May 6th Elections offer Conscience Choice

April 24, 2010

Voters going to the polls in local and parliamentary elections on May 6th will have the largest spread of Christian Democratic candidates standing for office in political history. Linked to similar parties across Europe, the Christian Peoples Alliance is running over 130 local authority candidates and 17 parliamentary candidates. In elections to Europe last year, the CPA ran joint lists with the Christian Party on a national basis, winning votes from a quarter of a million people. Party Leader, Cllr Alan Craig, is running for executive Mayor of Newham Council.

Party spokesperson, Susan May, says the CPA election move springs from the desire of many christians across England to run for office and offer voters Christian policies based on values not shared by the secular parties.

Speaking in a live televised debate last night with Labour Treasury minister, Stephen Timms MP and Conservative front-bencher, David Liddington MP, Susan May said:

“Across Britain, many voters are disillusioned by the drift to secularism of the big parties. The Christian Peoples Alliance offer them values they can vote for, based on church social teaching. We are a party of conscience, committed to social justice, tackling endemic poverty and radical reform of our corrupt political system. Our aim is not to be self-seeking, but to serve our communities.”

Susan May told viewers on Revelation TV that Christian Democratic parties similar to the CPA were elected to parliaments across Europe and were often found in government. She also pointed out that in 2009, just 58 per cent of voters backed Labour, the Liberal Democrats and Conservative voters, with many voters preferring new parties.

The Christian Peoples Alliance has local authority seats it is defending in east London, where the party forms the Official Opposition on Newham Council. It is running candidates in boroughs across London, with a focus on Newham, Greenwich, Kingston upon Thames and Harrow. It is also standing council candidates in Three Rivers District Council, Reigate & Banstead, Milton Keynes, Sandwell and Birmingham.

Parliamentary candidates are running across England (full details below) and are based on self-starting Christian community activists seeking to serve their local communities.
